Managing the Media Library
The WordPress Media Library is where all your images, videos, audio files, and documents are stored. 1. Accessing the Media Library
To access your Media Library, follow these steps:
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.

2. Uploading New Media Files
Method 1: From the Media Library
- Go to
Media > Library. - Click the
Add Newbutton at the top of the page. - Either drag and drop files into the upload area or click
Select Filesto browse your computer. - Wait for the upload to complete. Once finished, the files will appear in your media library.
Method 2: While Editing Content
- When editing a post or page, click the
Add Blockbutton. - Select an
Image,Gallery, or other media block. - Choose
Uploadto add a new file, orMedia Libraryto select an existing file.
3. Viewing and Organizing Media
Switching Views
- Grid View: Click the grid icon to see thumbnails in a grid layout (default view).

5. Deleting Media Files
To delete a media file:

Media > Library. - Hover over the file you want to delete.

Delete Permanently. - Confirm the deletion when prompted.
Important: Deleting a media file will remove it from your website. If the file is being used in a post or page, it will show as broken or missing on the front end.
6. Replacing Media Files
If you need to replace a media file while keeping the same URL and attachment ID:
- Click on the media file in the library.
- In the attachment details, look for the
Replace Mediaoption. - Click
Replace Mediaand upload the new file. - The new file will replace the old one while maintaining the same URL.
7. Organizing Media with Folders
Some WordPress installations include folder organization features. If available:
- Look for folder options in your media library.
- Create folders to organize files by category, date, or purpose.
- Move files into folders by dragging and dropping or using the folder menu.
